While home is where the heart is, during the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, home is also where the vacation is! The partners at Riverwalk A&E District Fort Lauderdale and some of our friends around Fort Lauderdale are offering great ways to be in vacation mode, from the comfort of your own home. Once social distancing is over, The District partners look forward to welcoming you back to immersing yourself in the culture, dining, hotels and more that make downtown Fort Lauderdale so exciting.

Rise and shine to a tasty oven-baked pancake from Old Fort Lauderdale Breakfast House ― these can actually now be delivered right to your doorstep! The O-B House is a farm-to-table local favorite restaurant serving delicious breakfast and lunch dishes.

Once you finish breakfast, take a trip to the beautiful Bonnet House Museum & Gardens on your computer, tablet or smartphone. A Virtual and Vintage Tour of this stunning 35-acre estate across from the Atlantic Ocean includes a tour of the house, oral history by the late Bonnet House owner Evelyn Bartlett and Irene Hart (who as a child lived at and near the property), and engaging clips from the Bartletts’ home movies. Maybe you’ll spot some famous historic figures!

Each weekday at 11 a.m., live stream the Historic Stranahan House Museum as part of its family-friendly “Live from Fort Lauderdale” series. Kids will enjoy this fun and interactive program that includes live storytelling, arts and crafts, and more. The storied Historic Stranahan Museum, considered the birthplace of Fort Lauderdale, is the oldest surviving structure in Broward County.

Perfect for the whole family is the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ education page, offering enjoyable and interactive classes. Try out the Broward Center’s other virtual features, as well as trending playlists.

Keep up your happiness by virtually roaming NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale’s “Happy!” exhibition. A new curated exhibition, “Happy!” is produced by artists who aim to engage the viewer emotionally. Maybe you could even try creating your own happy masterpiece!

Then, try a virtual stop at History Fort Lauderdale on its YouTube channel. Engage in one of its many lectures given by prominent authors, historians and civic leaders. Their stories of challenges, achievements and discoveries helped to make Fort Lauderdale the unique and exhilarating destination it is today.

For a true vacation feel, why not spruce up your home with some fresh-cut flowers, or even a lovely tropical candle? And here’s a tip to get those fresh hotel-style sheets: Take ½ cup of baking soda and add it to the washer while it’s filling. Then, add your sheets and let them soak for 30 minutes before starting the wash cycle. Once they are washed, dry as usual!

You can even make a vacation-worthy drink! Follow along with our friends at the Riverside Hotel’s Boathouse on this video to learn how to make the perfect white sangria.

And of course, don’t forget about The District’s Stay, Play & Ride hotel getaway or Plunge Into Fort Lauderdale package for your next visit.

At this time when life is simply not normal, make the effort to bring the beauty of culture, fun-filled activities, yummy food and more into your home with The District. Create a happy space for yourself, and don’t forget to share photos of your home adventures with us at #DoTheDistrict!
