While October tends to focus on the festivities of Halloween, at the Riverwalk A&E District Fort Lauderdale, there is much more in store this month! On Tuesday, Oct. 1, the exhibition “The Bryans of Fort Lauderdale” will be unveiled at History Fort Lauderdale (New River Inn). This major permanent exhibition, shares the story of Fort Lauderdale as told through The Bryans, a family who shaped the city’s development from vegetable farms to a major metropolis. Entry to the exhibition is free with History Fort Lauderdale general admission.
During Bonnet House Museum & Gardens’ final Cool Saturday of the summer on Saturday, Oct. 5, you can explore a whimsical house, discover a shell museum, view fish sculptures rising into the air, and search for playful monkeys in the trees and beautiful swans in fresh water lakes. On this day from 9 a.m.–4 p.m., admission is only $10 per adult; free for children aged 12 and under. No other discounts apply.
It’s time to celebrate another year of life and remember loved ones in preparation for Dia de los Muertos, at the Sunday, Oct. 6 “Ofrendas” Family Fun Day exhibit opening at History Fort Lauderdale. This free public event features stories, face painting, a puppet show and tour of the community “Ofrendas” exhibition.
The “boy who wouldn’t grow up” himself ― Peter Pan ― and Captain Hook, Wendy and the Lost Boys will all be welcoming guests at Historic Stranahan House Museum’s Peter Pan Pirate Party on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Return to Neverland and enjoy food, crafts, games and fun at this fun-filled event, perfect for boys and girls. Advance registration required. $20 for one child and one adult together; $15 for each additional family member.
Bill Engvall will take the stage at Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. A GRAMMY Award®-nominated, multi-platinum selling artist, Engvall is most widely known for being part of the successful “Blue Collar Comedy” tour and concert films. $39–$89 per ticket.
It’s Halloween at its best! Historic Stranahan House Museum’s Spirits of Stranahan House Halloween Tours are consistently listed as one of South Florida’s must-see Halloween events. At 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25; Thursday, Oct. 31 and Friday, Nov. 1; guests will be introduced to the spirits who allegedly still call Historic Stranahan House Museum and other areas of South Florida home. Guided by authentic Victorian mourners, this is an event not to miss! $25 per person. Registration required.
“Shrek the Musical,” presented by Slow Burn, will be at Broward Center for the Performing Arts from Friday, Oct. 25–Sunday, Nov. 10, matinee and evening performances. Based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks Animation film, “Shrek the Musical” is a Tony Award®-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring entirely new songs from Jeanine Tesori and a hilarious book by David Lindsay-Abaire. $49–$69 per ticket.
Celebrate the visual beauty of happiness with the Sunday, Oct. 27 opening of the exhibition “Happy!” at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale. Taking place from noon–5 p.m., the event will feature this new show which includes contemporary works produced by artists who want to emotionally engage viewers. $12 per adult; free for kids 12 & under.
