Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” is both famous and infamous–its fierce modernism nearly caused a riot at its premiere in 1913–yet in hindsight it ushered in a new era in music. Virtuoso pianist Jon Kimura Parker celebrated the centenary of the work by making a vibrant transcription for solo piano that has been hailed as “matching panache with high clarity.” Commenting on Parker’s performance, the Toronto Star observes,”It was dizzying to watch his hands dance and careen across the keyboard [in “Rite of Spring”, as if Diaghilev’s ballet were there in spirit, as well.”
