If you are looking for fun things to do in Fort Lauderdale in August, look no further than Riverwalk A&E District Fort Lauderdale! Whether you would like to experience The District’s arts and cultural opportunities virtually or in person, there are many options ranging from a “Piff the Magic Dragon: Live from Las Vegas” comedy special from the comfort of your home, to an on-site summer special visit to the beautiful Bonnet House Museum & Gardens. Locals and South Florida visitors alike can take advantage of all The District has to offer this August! Following are just a few examples.
Explore all that the Historic Stranahan House, the oldest surviving structure in Broward County, offers ― virtually! Visit this historic home on its YouTube channel, which is complete with historic videos, virtual tours and exciting content for everyone in the family, including the family dog! The Historic Stranahan House has served as a trading post, post office, town hall, and home to Frank Stranahan, known as Fort Lauderdale’s founding father; and his wife Ivy Cromartie Stranahan, the area’s first school teacher.
Take a trip in person to the breathtaking Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, featuring a summer special offering free admission for children aged 17 and under who are with an accompanying adult. Available through Monday, Sept. 7, the special includes the never-offered, self-guided house tour app and full access to the grounds. Tours are available Tuesdays through Sundays, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Adult pricing at $20. Visit bonnethouse.org for more information on available tours, the health and safety standards being implemented, and to purchase tickets.
On Fridays, Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 at 7 p.m., the Broward Center for the Performing Arts will host “Piff the Magic Dragon: Live from Las Vegas.” This all-new live hilarious and interactive magic experience brings Vegas-style showmanship and excitement directly to your living room! With his trusty sidekick Mr. Piffles (The World’s Only Magic Performing Chihuahua™), Piff ― the stand-out star of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” ― brings his signature wit and wizardry to this comedic magic show for the entire family. Passes to access this live streaming event are $35.75. Capacity is limited with each ticket, allowing viewing on one device.
NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale is working to reopen soon, but in the meantime, you can explore its series of virtual experiences ― from a 360-degree exhibit to step-by-step art activities ― designed especially for children and their parents, teachers and caregivers. Plus, the museum’s Creativity Exploration offers exciting mindfulness activities, perfect for all ages.
