Experience history in a unique way, right on the New River! Fort Lauderdale Historical Society’s new Historic Boat Tours will take place on Saturdays, Sept. 12 (maiden voyage), 19 and 26 from 9:30–11:30 a.m. The tours begin with a 1-hour boat tour along the New River; guests then disembark and tour the New River Inn, featuring the King Cromartie House and 1899 Replica School House. For reservations or more information, call 954-463-4431.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, 8 p.m. at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Al Jarreau and Jeffrey Osbourne, two legendary voices, join for one incredible concert. A smooth crooner with a flair for scat singing, Jarreau has released jazz, pop and R&B records across four decades. He is joined by Osbourne, who rose to fame from drummer, to lead vocalist, to first-rate solo artist, where he dominated the charts with Top 40 hits.

Birder extraordinaire Paddy Cunningham presents the Birding Class: Hawks Galore at the historic Bonnet House Museum & Gardens estate on Sunday, Sept. 20 from 2–5 p.m. To register, visit or call 954-703-2606. The cost is $20 for Bonnet House Members and $25 for non-members.

For a fascinating look at the history of bathing suits and how they have impacted society, Patsy West presents Stranahan Stories: “From Bathing to Swimming” on Monday, Sept. 21, 11 a.m.–noon. A fourth generation South Floridian from the William Freeman family of original homesteaders, West is a curator, ethno-historian and author. She owns a bathing and swimsuit collection totaling over 150 suits circa 1910 to present. This Historic Stranahan House Museum event is free and open to the public, and will take place at the Fort Lauderdale Women’s Club, 20 S Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, 33301.

Does your family love art and technology? Then Family Day: Arts and Technology at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. is the perfect opportunity to dive into these inspirational topics. Museum educators will present technology-inspired art workshops; the Broward County Main Library Youth Services department will offer an art and technology story time; and Broward County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad will present a robotic demonstration. It’s free for children 12 and under. RSVP at or 954-262-0204.
