As summer officially ends, September welcomes many exciting events and activities at the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District. From the energizing “Legends of Rock” concert featuring favorite artists from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s; to the delightful Tea and Tour at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, The District is offering something for everyone in September, whether you are a local or Fort Lauderdale visitor. Following are just a few of the events happening in The District this month:
Explore the historic and charming Historic Stranahan House Museum daily throughout September during house tours.The tours take place at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Docents guide guests through the home and share family memories, and stories of the beginnings of Fort Lauderdale and its early residents. $12 adults, $11 seniors, $7 students.
A cup of tea, anyone? Visit NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, Sept. 14 for Tea and Tour, including a 2:30 p.m. traditional afternoon tea, followed by a 3:30 p.m. guided tour of the exhibitions “African Art: Highlights of the Permanent Collection” and “Five Centuries of Prints from Rembrandt to Picasso: Drs. Is it a bird? Yes! Join expert guide Paddy Cunningham on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 2–5 p.m. for the Hawks Galore bird watching class at Bonnet House Museum & Gardens. Bonnet House, a birding paradise, is home to hundreds of native and migratory birds. The class is limited to 25 people. Reservations required. Rock on! Music legends of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s will take the stage at Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. during the “Legends of Rock” concert. Enjoy the music of some of classic rock’s most iconic artists: Jefferson Starship; Mark Farner, formerly of Grand Funk Railroad; Rick Derringer; and Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels. $25–$155.
