We are pleased to announce that Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment (A&E) District partner Fort Lauderdale Historical Society will be featured as part of C-SPAN’s 2015 Cities Tour – Fort Lauderdale, in partnership with Comcast. Taped April 20–22, the feature will air May 16–17 on the public affairs network’s non-fiction book channel Book TV/C-SPAN2 Comcast channel 104 and history channel American History TV/C-SPAN3 Comcast channel 105, during C-SPAN’s special Fort Lauderdale weekend. C-SPAN is available in Fort Lauderdale on Comcast channel 14.

C-SPAN selected Fort Lauderdale as a city rich with history and interesting local literary communities to feature on it Book TV and American History TV during special weekends. While in Fort Lauderdale, the network taped segments including the “History of Fort Lauderdale” and “Seminole History and Culture,” both filmed at the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society/New River Inn. Additional segments will cover the African American Research Library and Port Everglades. During their time in Fort Lauderdale, C-SPAN representatives also conducted community and education outreach.

C-SPAN began its Fort Lauderdale visit on April 20 with a kick-off event/press conference with Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler and Broward County Mayor Tim Ryan at the New River Inn on Las Olas Blvd.

In each of the cities the tour visits, the C-SPAN producing team takes specially outfitted Local Content Vehicles to various literary and historic sites as they interview local historians, authors, and civic leaders. They also meet with students, teachers, elected officials, and organizations to talk about C-SPAN’s mission in covering public affairs programming, and what the local connections are to national politics.

Be sure to tune into C-SPAN2 and C-SPAN3 on May 16 and 17, and watch the fascinating heritage of Fort Lauderdale and the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society shine in the national spotlight!
