Jazz vocalist Giacomo Gates joins members of the Gold Coast Jazz Society Band for this special evening of classic jazz and the Great American Songbook. A solid singer and entertainer, Gates recently toured Europe with Kurt Elling’s The Four Brothers vocal ensemble (Giacomo, Andy Bey, Mark Murphy and Kurt Elling). “Gates is a solid example of a performer who is doing something that no one else does. He evokes an age when musicians were entertainers and entertainers were musicians, and a sense of humor was as important as a sense of rhythm,” said Will Friedwald in The New York Sun. He has played in major jazz clubs including, Birdland, Smoke, Jazz Standard, Blue Note, and Dizzy’s, Philadelphia’s Chris’ Jazz Cafe, Blues Alley and The Kennedy Center in D.C., Scullers in Boston and Snug Harbor in New Orleans, Dazzles in Denver, The Jazz Bakery in LA, Pearl’s in San Francisco; and major festivals like Detroit/Montreux, Telluride, Caramoor, Sedona, Rochester, Syracuse, Clearwater, Fairbanks Summer Arts, California’s Jazz at the Plazz, and New York’s Lost Shrine Series; and at countless universities and jazz societies. Gates has six heavily acclaimed CDs, with his last release, Miles Tones – Giacomo Gates Sings The Music of Miles Davis, garnering rave reviews and topping the National Jazz Radio Playlist. His newest CD, “Everything is Cool” will be released on in July of 2015. Get ready for a great evening of swinging jazz standards.
