The Gold Coast Jazz Society proudly presents the Delfeayo Marsalis Quartet in “The Last Southern Gentlemen Tour” which pairs father Ellis Marsalis, Jr. with son Delfeayo in a swinging concert of jazz standards and original compositions. When you think of jazz, the name of Marsalis quickly comes to mind and Delfeayo Marsalis is one of the shining stars of this first family of jazz who is known for his “technical excellence, inventive mind and frequent touches of humor” says Leonard Feather of the Los Angeles Times. Ellis, the patriarch of the jazz family, is an acclaimed jazz pianist who produced four exceptionally talented sons. Trombonist Delfeayo is an NEA Jazz Master, a stellar composer and one of the most renowned producers in jazz today. Picking up the trombone at age 17, he cut his first recording with his father. Since then, Delfeayo has been part of more than seventy recordings on major labels, has won four Grammy awards and has been the featured trombone soloist with such heavy hitters as Ray Charles and Fats Domino. He has toured on the road with numerous jazz greats including Art Blakey, Slide Hampton, and Max Roach. Rounding out the quartet for the “The Last Southern Gentlemen Tour” is John Clayton and Marvin Smith.
