Bria Skonberg Quartet – Brass and Velvet…Music of Louis Armstrong, Anita O’Day and More
Women jazz trumpeters are few and far between but jazz siren, Bria Skonberg, makes up for the shortage. The brassy and velvet sounds of this young jazz star, who is well on the rise of the jazz ladder, has garnered acclaim as an “outstanding jazz artist.” Hailing from Chilliwack, British Columbia, and now living in New York City, the award winning trumpeter is also a vocalist and composer. She is poised to be “one of the most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation,” says the Wall Street Journal. “She’s unbelievable,” claims jazz veteran, Bucky Pizzarelli. Will Friedwald, from the Wall Street Journal, rhapsodized that “Bria Skonberg looks like a Scandinavian angel (or Thor’s girlfriend), plays trumpet like a red hot devil, and sings like a dream.” In 2013 she earned a Jazz Journalists’ Association nomination for “Up and Coming Jazz Artist of The Year” and has been included in the Downbeat Magazine “Rising Star” Critics’ Poll the last two years. She swept the 2014 Hot House Jazz Magazine Awards in all categories and has recently been honored with a New York Bistro Award for “Outstanding Jazz Artist.” The young songbird’s concert will blend New Orleans brass with her cool voice and warm trumpet tones.
