History Happy Hour: The Civic Activism of Ivy Stranahan

Combine your love of history with a glass of featured wine at the Historic Stranahan House Museum’s History Happy Hour. Join local historian and Broward County Schools educator Michelle Sammartino for a deep dive into the civic and social activism of Fort Lauderdale’s first lady, Ivy Stranahan. Learn how Ivy challenged the status quo by fighting for the rights of women, African Americans and Native Americans during the early 20th century. Also, hear about the role she played in the creation of numerous Fort Lauderdale organizations such as the Fort Lauderdale Women's Club, Audubon Society, Red Cross and more. Complimentary light bites, wine and museum tours are included. Advance registration is requested. The New River Marketplace debuted in June with its more than 52 vendors, offering a selection of original art, antiques, furnishings, collectables, clothing, jewelry, plants and more. The Marketplace, set along the banks of the New River under the shade of historic live oaks, also offered gourmet bites and beverages from food trucks, live music and a tattoo artist that added another artistic dimension to this community event.
