January is Sizzling Hot with Fun in The District!

While many other areas of the U.S. are bundling up in the cold, the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District is keeping its cool in the tropical weather with delightful events. From the Holiday Hangover party at Historic Stranahan House, to A Night of Symphonic Hip Hop featuring Nelly, there are limitless events to enjoy at The District in January. Following are just a few:

On Thursday, Jan. 5, kick off 2017 and say goodbye to 2016 during the Holiday Hangover event at Historic Stranahan House. From 5:30–8:30 p.m., attendees will enjoy delicious food from various restaurants, specialty cocktails, house tours and live entertainment. Each guest will receive a chance to win a 25-person private party at the Historic Stranahan House Museum. Advance registration is requested.

Enjoy “The Step … A Book Signing with NASA Scientist Martha Lemasters” at History Museum Fort Lauderdale on Monday, Jan. 9 from 6–8 p.m. Find out how single mother Martha Lemasters overcame monumental obstacles to find success both personally and professionally in this bold and exciting memoir. $10 donation.

Listen to soothing music under the stars during the Thursday, Jan. 19 Concert Under the Stars at Bonnet House Museum & Gardens. From 7–9 p.m., take in the sounds of University of Miami Frost Opera Theater, as they perform a variety of arias and duets. The concert takes place on the Bonnet House’s beautiful gardens and lawns, and the evening includes complimentary wine, cookies and coffee. Tickets start at $35 for members and $40 for non-members.

More music! At SongFest Broward, presented by Florida Grand Opera at Leiser Opera Center Fort Lauderdale on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m., Florida Grand Opera Young Artists Elena Galván, Michael Kuhn and Nicholas J. Ward will present “From Russia with Love.” This event is free, but an RSVP is required.

On Sunday, Jan. 22 from 2–3 p.m., NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater will conduct Art Talk: History of Girls’ Club,” a conversation on the history of the renowned Fort Lauderdale art space Girls’ Club, at the museum alongside Francie Bishop Good, Michelle Weinberg, and Sarah Michelle Rupert. Girls’ Club’s mission is to educate the public, and nurture the careers of female artists, curators and practicing artists on the contributions of women to the field of contemporary art. $12 per person, includes museum admission. Free for museum members.

It’s getting hot in herre! On Thursday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m., GRAMMY Award®-winning rapper, singer and songwriter Nelly will take the stage during “A Night of Symphonic Hip Hop featuring Nelly.” Backed by a full symphony and his band, Nelly will present a symphonic twist on his hits including “Hot in Herre,” “Just a Dream,” and “Country Grammar.” $45–$250 per person.

The year 2017 is off to a great start at The District! Be sure not to miss out!
