Date:
December 9, 2011 to November 15, 2012
Description:
Fabulous Forties on the Avenue Exhibit is a tribute to the accomplishments and business achievements of the African-American community in Fort Lauderdale, Florida during the late 1940s. In celebration of the Fort Lauderdale Centennial and Broward County African-American Research Library and Cultural Center’s upcoming 10th year anniversary, the library pays a historic tribute to Fort Lauderdale in our museum gallery with an iconic stretch of road that was the commerce hub of the community, namely Northwest 5th Avenue in the late 1940’s. This year-long exhibit will include the latest in mobile applications technology, allowing both young and old to access the historical materials through a series of interactive kiosks. These kiosks will allow visitors to create a fun video of their gallery experience and download the video to their email, Facebook or other social media outlets.

Description:
The Geckos—Tails to Toepads traveling exhibit introduces visitors to the remarkable diversity of lizards with engaging interactives and living examples from around the world. Lush, naturalistic habitats draw audiences into the geckos’ realm. The gecko habitats re-create natural environments in astonishing detail. State-of-the-art controls provide lighting, humidity, temperature, and water quality to meet the needs of these delicate creatures. Visitors can experience gecko night vision, listen to gecko voices, learn unusual facts from gecko experts, try to spot camouflaged geckos, and build a custom gecko for various environments. The exhibition also presents cutting edge science, from the race to catalog and classify gecko diversity to unraveling the mysteries of gecko adhesion.
