Lunch (and a cerveza!) on Las Olas
via the Sun Trolley
Once you’ve finished wandering the gardens at your leisure, head over to the Sun Trolley and take the beach link to the Las Olas link. For $3 per person, you can ride the trolley all day long and enjoy the sites without the hassle of parking. Download the Sun Trolley Tracker for free on your smartphone to see times, routes and more. Once on Las Olas, you will have plenty of choices for lunch. Johnny V’s brings a taste of Spain, Rocco’s Tacos has superb guacamole made tableside, or venture to West Las Olas and find the charming Chimney House, featuring authentic delicacies from a variety of Latin-American cuisines.
Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera exhibit at
the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale
After a delicious lunch and a cerveza (or two), you must check out the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit at the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, located at Las Olas Boulevard and Andrews Avenue. It’s a quick five- to seven-minute walk, or you can hop on the Riverwalk Water Trolley right behind the Stranahan House for a free ride up the river to Huizenga Plaza, located directly across from the NSU Art Museum.
See “Anything Goes” at Broward Center
for the Performing Arts
Heading west along the New River, you’ll find Esplanade Park, and just beyond that is the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, rated as one of the top 10 best performing theaters in the U.S. In May, the Broward Center will feature a variety of performances, from the Broadway smash “Anything Goes” to great jazz and blues, fabulous dance and intimate theater experiences. The Broward Center also offers a great restaurant, Marti’s New River Bistro, with sweeping views of the New River. Marti’s is open most evenings beginning at 5:30 pm and offers a prix fixe menu prior to performances and an à la carte menu beginning at 8 p.m. The bar is also a great place to try a selection wines, beers and top shelf drinks – did someone say margaritas? Book your tickets at the Broward Center.
