Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum Preserves Heritage and Teaches Safety

Historic Fire Station 3, built in 1927, offers an inspiring story of service and courage within its Mediterranean-style walls. Although it no longer houses firefighters, it serves a far more meaningful purpose: to preserve Fort Lauderdale Fire Department’s heritage and to teach youth the importance of fire safety.

From nine stories up at dawn, it was a postcard- perfect picture.

The rising sun coated the ocean with a golden glow, illuminating a few power walkers and early morning swimmers sluicing through the calm water. The broad beach, dotted with coconut palms and bordered by a new undulating Art Deco wave wall, looked undeniably glamorous.
