Ten Years of Brazilian Voices – Celebrating Women

Brazilian Voices will celebrate its ten years of music by bringing to the stage a sweep of Brazilian and American hits. Supporting young talent the show will open with singer songwriter Davina Leone and then the thrill of 50 wonderful voices will follow. The audience will have a hard time sitting still. From James Brown and Queen to Tim Maia and Rita Lee to Lady Gaga and of course the wonderful Brazilian Rhythms with the accompaniment of the George Tandy Party Band. You won’t want to miss this one!

Primordial: Paintings and Sculpture by Isabel De Obaldía, 1985 – 2011

Demons, beasts, gods and ghosts are the subjects of this mid-century career retrospective of the work of Panamanian-based artist Isabel De Obaldía. The exhibition’s nearly one hundred works include approximately twenty paintings and drawings by the artist along with about eighty of her sculptures in glass.

Christmas on Las Olas

The most elegant shopping street in Fort Lauderdale dresses up for the holidays and celebrates Christmas with a much anticipated end-of-the-year street party. The boulevard is closed to vehicle traffic, shops are open late to show off their merchandise and restaurants and bars are generally filled with guests. School choirs give their all by singing popular holiday tunes and live bands or performers play on stages set up just for the occasion. For photos with Santa come to the Stranahan House where all members of the family, including the four-legged beloved pet can have a picture snapped with the Jolly Old St. Nick. There will also be complimentary tours of the house, all decked for the holidays, offered throughout the evening.

Art Walk

Join Stranahan House at the Art Walk Las Olas on the plaza by the Cheesecake Factory, where local artists, authors or artisans share their works each month. The House will be beautifully decorated for the holidays, so come and take a tour. Historic Stranahan House note cards will also be available for purchase.

Michael Kennedy speaks on Napoleon B. Broward

The Fort Lauderdale History Center’s 2011 Speaker Series welcomes actor and historian Michael Kennedy on Monday, November 14 at 6:00 PM in the Lucy Bryan Room at the New River Inn. Mr. Kennedy will also hold an encore lecture on Tuesday, November 15 at noon for the Brown Bag Lunch and Learn. Mike Kennedy will be in character speaking on the Life Story of Napoleon B. Broward, the 19th Governor of the Great State of Florida.
