Family Day at the Opera

Get an up close, behind-the-scenes look at the glamorous and mysterious world of opera. Children and parents alike will be able to join in the activities, which will include costume, prop, and make-up demonstrations by Florida Grand Opera professionals. Music will be all around us with concerts by FGO’s Young Artist Studio. Free and open to the public.

Jonathan G. Michie, who first appeared with FGO in Lucia di Lammermoor in 2010, returns in the Young Artist Recital special engagement accompanied by John Keene on the piano. This event is free and open to the public.

Centennial Traveling Exhibit

In celebration of the City’s Centennial a new exhibit at the New River Inn has opened. Centennial Celebration Committee historian Susan Gillis developed standing displays with photographs and narrative descriptions depicting four topics: Forts of Fort Lauderdale, Gateway to the Everglades, Tropical Wonderland, and Venice of America. Self guided tours on $5.

Israeli Dance Festival

Festival Yachad will feature more than 500 dancers on stage with local groups and invited companies from Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Panama and Argentina, performing to Israeli folk dance music, with colorful costumes, amazing scenery and spectacular lighting effects. This year our Festival Yachad reaches 15 years and the Gala Performance theme is “Ima Adama”, which in Hebrew means “Mother Nature”. Each dance is choreographed to portray a different element of Nature, its seasons, and how Israel has been preserving and recycling its resources since biblical times.

Cocktails with Larry Miller

Comedian Larry Miller takes to the stage in his one-man show to share his perspective on marriage, children and drinking … and how each one leads to the other two. As one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces, the comic has appeared in over 50 films including Pretty Woman, Waiting For Guffman and The Princess Diaries. He has made numerous appearances on The Tonight Show, The Late Show with David Letterman and Real Time with Bill Maher. Other TV credits include Desperate Housewives, Seinfeld, Law & Order and Boston Legal. The laughs will be non-stop as Larry combines his comedy, acting and music talents to create a fresh and funny theatrical experience that appeals to all ages.
